The story started off at the office where Lucy Carmel Sullivan works, where her office mates and her were dicussing about getiing palm reading. The usual effort how working class are all trying to improve themselves. Awesome, I can totally relate to that.

It all started with a palm reading that all four of them seem to be affected. They areMeredia, a woman is looking for the love of her life; Hetty, a married woman who was the only person who does the work in the office; Megan, a no-nonsense travelling Australian and of course, Lucy Sullivan.

The idea for the palm reading came from Meredia and the oart where Lucy asked (in a blur fashion), what her palm reading meant. Apparently, she is going to get married in a year. Great? Not really because Lucy does not not see anyne and his life is pretty much man-free. The closest thing tha she can get is the good friend called Daniel Watson. Daniel really cannot help himself being gorgeous and nice, becoming the trophy that Lucy's roommate and gay friend long for.

Lucy never take Daniel seriously. Every opportunity she has, she will laugh at Daniel or making fun at hm. For Lucy, Daniel is a womaniser, no matter how hard Daniel tries to prove otherwise.

Enter Gus ('Mad a brush', according to Karen, Lucy's roommate), a penniless musician and a drunk. Gus waltzs in and out of Lucy's life as it suits him. This is the part that I like.

The book touches on sexual imprit, which term means girls tend to pick a guy who has similar characteristics like their fathers. Like Lucy's father, Gus was also an alcoholic. Gus was always talking rubbish, being irrational and jobless. Not very unlike Lucy's own father.

Her Dad's problem is obvious to everyone, except Lucy. And then something happened, which made her realise what was going on with her father.

Lucy never believed the palm reader's prediction. For her, it will never happen to her. T a turn of event took changed the course of her life.

Personally, I absolutely love Marian Keyes' sense of humour. It was just delightful. The while book was a joy to read. Each character has different significant personalities, making the story become very colourful.

Obviously I've read this book several times, I just love it. It is absolutely delightful to read after a hard day's work. But, it will make it difficult to sleep I read it before I go to sleep.

Would I recommend it? Yes, of course. It is funny and witty.

Masih lagi berkisar tentang buku-buku terbitan Fixi. Kali ini daripada Shaz Johar.

Pertama kali melihat kulit buku naskhah ini, aku tersenyum. Nakal rupa luaran Kougar tetapi mungkin tidak berapa tepat untuk mengukur sesebuah buku hanya daripada rupa luaran.

Kisha, itu bama watak utama. Pastilah dia adalah seorang wanita yang lpmempunyai kecenderungan untuk melayan lelaki yang lebih muda. Pada pendapat aku, Kisha tidaklah terlalu tua. Entahlah, mungkin kerana aku sebenarnya hanya punya kurang lebih sedekad untuk cecah usia seperti Rakisha mungkin.

Scene pertama merupakan tempa yang aku biasa tempuh. Sebuah tren. dan melalui pengalaman sendiri jugak tren adalah tempat yang mudah untuk cuci mata. Ahem. Oke, baiklah. Aku bersalah.

Sudah agak berusia, Rakisha adalah seorang pengurus aku kira (kerana ada orang yang diuruskannya). Dan seperti gadis-gadis bujang yang bekerja di ibu kta, Rakisha di dalam Kougar turut hadapi tekanan darioada ibunya yang mahu dia berkahwin segera.

Bagaimana rasanya sudah punya kekasih hati tetapi tidak diterima ibu? Bagaimana pula rasanya rebound dan 'keluar mulut buaya, masuk mulut naga'?

Tahniah, Shaz Johar. Kouga sangat menarik perhatian saya. Dan terima kasih memberi idea bagaimana nak menangani situasi kalau terperangkap di antara hak dan perjuangan diri sendiri.

Isu yang ditampilkan dalam Kougar aku kira adalah sebuah isu yang tidak pernah padam. Siapa tidak risau bila masih lagi tidak ketemu jodoh. Tetapi kadang-kala jadi risau pula bila sudsh bertemu jodoh. Kedua-dua ini memang menimblkan kesulitan untuk ramai wanita, terutamanya yang sibuk mengejar kerjaya.

Olahannya santai dalam serius. Konflik dengan ibu, konflik dengan hati, dengan hal pejabat, dengan rakan-rakan...apa yang berlaku dalam kehidupan seharian tetapi olahan dalam Kougar buatkan ia jadi menarik untuk diikuti.

Dalam gelak dan cuak, Shaz Johar beri peringatan

' Aku pelik tengok dia sebenarnya. Pakai tudung dengan baju lengan pendek dan seluar legging. Motif?'

Bersahaja tapi kena tepat.

Watak kawan baik Rakisha memang terdapat di mana-mana. Kasihan sebenarnya tetapi itulah realiti rumahtangga. Lebih-lebih lag sekarang ini.

Di dalam Kougar kita jenguk sedikit tentang apa yang bersarang dalam fikiran andartu, fungsi Facebook dan effective physical and virtual stalking.

Karya ini memang menghiburkan. Buatkan aku takut sedikit pastinya (kerana Rakisha sedang lalui apa yang aku sedang lalui). Kepada yang sudah membeli, penamatnya sangat comel. Aku suka.

Sebagai orang yang gila buku, pastinya aku akan ke Pesta Buku. Cuma bezanya, kali ini impian untuk ambil lesen menyelam menyebabkan aku terpaksa mengekang keinginan untuk memborong secara mengikut nafsu.

Buku pertama yang aku capai adalah Cekik terbitan Fixi. Kalau tengok daripada kulit depannya, aku sudah teringat akan snuff films. Aku tak tengoklah, aku baca karya Sidney Sheldon. Ada penerangan tentang itu.

Dan tanggapan pertama aku tentang Cekik, tidak jauh berbeza.

Gaya perceritaan dalam cerita ini adalah pandangan sudut pertama. Ya, yang selalu kita baca di dalam blog. Latar belakang di dalam cerita ini bercampur-baur di antara kampung dan Bandar. Bandar dengan ejaan huruf besar kerana bagi Warith (watak utama di dalam buku ini), Bandar semacam satu daerah lain bagi dirinya yang tidak pernah keluar dari kampung sepanjang 14 tahun kehidupannya.

Cerita ini cerita misteri/ jenayah. Cerita ini juga membawa kita menyelam akan kehidupan lelaki. Menarik. Sangat. 

Ia membawa kita akan kehidupan seorang budak lelaki yang bapanya sering menghabiskan masa di surau tetapi tidak pula mengajar Warith akan ilmu ukhrawi. Perkara biasa, bukan?

Ya, itu yang aku rasa merupakan kekuatan di dalam Cekik. Bahasa yang sempoi tetapi masih lagi tidak langgar sukahati penggunaan Bahasa Melayu. Dengan begitu ketara.

Menyelak helai demi helai Cekik, kita akan dibawa masuk ke dalam kehidupan hampir setiap watak. Ada banyak imbau kembali dalam cerita ini. Ia membawa kita masuk mengenali akan personaliti dsn apa yang membawa mereka semua ke mana mereka sekarang.

Ceritanya tragik, bagi aku. Entah trauma apa yang dialami Warith mendapat seorang ayah yang begitu. Maksudnya, pastu sangat sukar hingga Warith terpaksa lari dari rumah. Dan kemudian, bertemu pula dengan Suria Menado.

Ini adalah pendapat aku, mungkin aksi-aksi dalam kamar yang terdapat dalam Cekik ini menyokong jalan cerita, aku tidak punya masalah. Tetapi entah, aku lihat penggunaan aksi-aksi dalam kamar bersepah-sepah tanpa sebab yang jelas. Sudahnya, aku jadi keliru akan keutamaan dan fungsi aksi-aksi sebegitu. Belajar biologi? Mungkin tidak perlu kerana pembacaan membuatkan kita berjalan dlam cerita, bermain dengan imaginasi.

Satu lagi yang buat aku rasa kurang senang adalah susunan cerita. Bagi aku, jalan cerita semacam bercampur-campur hingga ia jadi sangat mengelirukan. Mungkin disebabkan aku seorang penganalisa maklumat, jadi aku terengsa bila susunan jadi sangat kucar-kacir.

Di mana imbas kembali, di mana cita sebenar? Mengapa sukar benar untuk membezakan samada Warith sedang berangan atau itu adalah apa yang sedang berlaku? Mengapa pada muka surat belakang baru ada imbas kembali akan apa yang 'difikirkan' oleh mee maggi? Apakah signifikannya? Apa yang membuatkan imbas kembali mee maggi ini penting?.

Sebagai seorang penganalisa maklumat, aku dilatih untuk mengasingkan fakta; fakta yang menyokong cerita dan cerita dongeng. Jadi, maafkan aku yang cerewet.

Bila seseorang membaca cerita dan mengalami masalah untuk mengikut jalan cerita, ia sudah menganggu. Aku tahu kerana aku sendiri selalu ditegur.

Keseluruhannya, aku berasakan Cekik ada potensi kalau ia dihasilkan dengan lebih serius. Mana-mana perkataan bahasa asing seeloknya diitalickan (kadang-kadang, memang tidak boleh elak). Dan aku masih berasakan yang adegan di atas katil dan aksi-aksi fetisy perlu digunakan secara ekonomi.

So, Nan is back. This time around, the name is Nan Hutchinson since she married the Harvard Hottie who worked with UN. They have been to a lot of places, living in huts and of course sleep on rented beds. Now, they have come back to New York. And Nan was still haunted by the day she had to leave Grayer 12 years ago. 

Nan was no longer a nanny and has started her own consultation business and looking frantically for clients. And then she was summoned to Jaryndyce where things started to go haywire from there. How lucky it is not to become the generation born with Internet at the tips of our fingers. Imagine the humiliation when people forawrd your embarassing video for everyone to see. Well, we may only have so little technology back then but still, didn't we had fun during our childhood? 

Apparently, it wasn't so for Grayer X who came back looking for Nan in the middle of the night, drunk and speaking incoherently about his parents. About how Mr X has ledt Mrs X and how is he going to try to bring up Stilton, a brother who was just 8. The parent figure never visible in his life. 

IMHO, the first book was really hilarious. At the end, of course, it is heartbreaking but this time, it showed how Nan had grown up but sadly, not her friends. Her friends who were not so nice in school, turned out not to be nice when they become mothers. It was almost heartbreaking to be with the people who don't understand the importance of parenting and taking charge of the kids although you pay tem USD 40k per year. Giving out money just wasn't enough. 

For those who would want to know what happened to Grayer, well, this is it. However, you can expect Nan to be less funny. There are a lot of things in her mind, including starting a family ;). 

P/S: It doesn't seem fair to review 'You are the One I don't want' by Alexandra Potter since my friend hasn't finish it yet

From Marian Keyes. Yes, lately has become one of her fans. I managed to get two of her books at great prices. Apparently, the place where I rent her books has difficulty to stock her books bur never mind.

Watermelon is about Claire who lost her husband once she gave birth to a baby girl. She didn't see this coming, especially when the woman is someone living in their building, a woman is older than her and has three kids. However, it happened and she was left alone with her baby while her husband galloped off with ther other woman.

Then, Claire returned back to the Walsh residence with her dysfunctional family. She had to turn back to her normal size as she realized she is now the equivalent to watermelon (hence the title of the book).

Despite the insanity in the house with her other siblings, she managed to pull it off with the baby. Of course, the first two months were the hardest; that ease when it hit home that she is now a single mother. But then came the beautiful Adam, Helen's friends but someone who clearly  likes her.

At first, she couldn't believe it what with the baby and all but it turned out that Adam really interested in her. That was when her husband came down all the way from London to convince her to come back and try to win her back.

Well, not really win her back but actually putting her down so much that she start doubting herself.

' Was it really my fault that he left me to leave with our neighbor?'
' Am I the reason that he went with her?'
' Was I being so selfish during pregnancy that he had to get the love from someone else?'

You see, of course her husband is trying to win her back except that it wasn't done in a good way. He shifted all the guilt on Claire. And the problem is, Claire actually bought it. You know, Mammy Walsh doesn't believe in divorce. So, she tried to get back with her husband.

It was fun seeing how the story progress. How Claire handles the issues in a most hilarious way. And of course, meeting the Walsh for the first time.

The book is for light-reading of course a chick-lit. It is great if you just want to relax with a good book. I give 4 doughnuts.

Which reminds me, it has been sometime since I had a doughnut. Hurm...

Do You Come Here Often? by Alexandra Potter


Chic list are mostly full of cliches. Well, undeniably true? But still, there are times that I would l
love to be reading something that is rather sweet, not totally horrific or downright funny like the usual choice of My favourites. And a friend mentioned about this book from Alexandra Potter. Since my high expectations were crushed when I read Carole Matthews, I decided to try reading is book.

I fell in love with this book from Alexandra Potter in the first few pages. It's funny and witty.

What do I like about it?
1. The story seemed close enough. Like, it happened in real life. A struggle of finding the right person rather than becoming the person someone wants you to be. The struggle to keep thin when someone expects you to be although you are pretty comfortable with yourself.

2. The dilemma is true enough like the struggle of women finding partners. Now now, I'm sure guys face the same problem too but this is a chic lit so bear with me.

3. The ever lingering question of whether there will be someone for us. Yes, scary. What if there isn't?

4. It gives hope that some people change. After some life-changing experience that is.

Would I recommend it to anyone? I think I would. Cross that, I recommend it. I can't wait to take a look at Alexandra Potter's other books.

its about a road trip. how a person who were released from prison early only to found out that his life is already dead. Shadow has already lost Laura.

It seems that the gods are trying to take away the people's believe from modern gods (Internet and Media). its like the same case with the Greek gods; they won't last if the people stop believing. Ouh ya, a bit like Freddy Krueger too.

So he went with Mr Wednesday (or so he said) to gather all the old gods in other to beat the modern gods who really want to keep them off the world. He moves from one site to another; looking and meeting other gods. He tries to eliminate Wednesday's enemies while at the same time trying to stay alive after being beaten by the modern gods' team.

Shadow practices coin magic and in one incident, he gave the wrong coin to the wrong person who later saves his life. He also learnt tricks that he never knew he can do; putting ideas in people's and make them believe it. He found mysteries and solve them (like the city where each kid got lost during the winter). He kind of gave Laura another life before death without him knowing so.

It is hard to say the genre of this book. There's love, mystery, thriller, drama, fantasy, fiction and history. It was rather heavy (compared to Terry Pratchett) but I enjoyed it. Obviously, Neil Gaiman did a thorough research on the gods and I can imagine it is not easy. There's a glimpse of famous ones like Easter, Odin while there's also Horus and Ifrit. Although they make short cameos, one will still have to know their function to make the story believable, right?

I was kept wondering what happened from one page to another; why was he released from prison too early, was it the dead Laura that walked with him in the city, was he hallucinating or it really happened when he decided to be Wednesday's vigil? It was definitely a page turner.

There are many gods in books (feel free to browse yourself). Although Internet, Media and TV are not considered as gods, don't you think we are putting more faith in them?

I give four chocolate doughnuts. Ouh strictly not for anyone who prefer not to read about others' beliefs.

Some may not find The Winner Stands Alone from Paulo Caelho as interesting but I do. The things that he wrote in there like fashion, saying things in fashion will be obsolete in the next six months, is interesting. The fact that he said the IT bigshots wear jeans and shirts should be an indication that the big cars, the glittery dresses and the fame are worthless.

This book is the latest book from Caelho and unlike his other writings, this is about us, about struggling in the world where money and fame triumph over personal development. Where over people with over inflated ego try to make the most out of everything to their own benefit.

The story starts with Igor who flew down to Cannes, not to see the renowned film festival but to get back his ex-wife, Ewa. He believes that destroying worlds (killing people) will send the message to Ewa that he still loves her. It doesn't make sense, of course, because a lot of things do not makes sense in this world.

Glimpses of the cruel truth about fame and glamour are available in this book. For those who look for an eye-opener, this is recommended. But those who hate authors who preach, stay as far as you can from this book.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 delicious, chocolate-filled doughnuts. The other half I intend to give it to my nephew.

The title itself is mushy and truthfully, boring. Why did i proceed to read? Because I want to see if it turns out to be different. i want to know whether Spencer is really Sally's knight in the armour, getting her out of the dump. In that sense, it is a page turner.

Story-wise? I'd say nothing special. A woman wants to have a better life for a kid, ex-boyfriend tries to win her back, new boyfriend comes, dashingly handsome, rich bla bla bla. Seriously, boring plot. Very predictable. You just need read like 15 pages and flip the backpage and look for another book. Maybe something from dilbert. That's be fun.

Can I give rating here? Anyways I want to. A half eaten, stale donut/ 5 freshly baked doughnuts.

am now in love with marian keyes. the plot of angels might be simple but actually it is not. in order to know maggie's dilemma, we have to finish the book. ade konsep-konsep baca depan, tengah dengan blakang ini mcm masih boleh digunapakai tetapi pasti hasilnya sungguh mengecewakan nanti. 

di dalam cerita ini, maggie telah pun pergi melawat rakannya yang berada di LA (motif tadi kau tulis english kemudian bahasa melayu?). barulah dia tahu susah sebenarnya nak industri hiburan ini. banyak cabaran. huhu

this is a story about a journey of being in love, getting married and trying to forgive and forget. how your dysfunctional family loves you for who you are and how friends are important. it also tells that beneath it all; you might not want to see the truth, which is too ugly. 

somehow it fells like keyes tries to connect us with reality through her writing by telling the entertainment industry is not as glossy as it looked or glamorous, how maybe people are not saying what they mean and most importantly, you can turn to your loved ones, no matter what. 

and it also tells that sometimes we believe in the things that we want to see; not the truth. like emily who loves troy and vice versa but troy chooses to sleep around just to make emily jealous because she doesn't believe that he loves her. 

in the end, it may have worked out for some. however, the most important part is the journey, not just the ending. 

and the part when one of the characters say that the love that returned is for you to keep, is really touching. i wondah

sapa kata buat cross-stitch tidak penat? nak cucuk jarum tu mana boleh tersasul, nanti tak elok design. lps tu kaler benang pun kene la padan, karang buruk. mungkinlah penerima tak perasan (kalau dia penerima hadiah, bukan pelanggan) tetapi pasti anda terasa tak puas hati kalau tersilap. mesti rasa mcm nak bukak balik semua benang tu dan pegi makan. sebab dah letih nak bukak balik benang yang dah cucuk, mestilah makan dulu ambil tenaga.

lepas dah makan, mestilah mengantuk. lagi-lagi pula dengan keadaan cuaca yang begini. oke ini alasan sebenarnya. kalau hujan ke tak hujan ke saya selalunye memang gemar tidur dengan gembira. lagi-lagi pula kipas betol-betol atas kepala. sungguh heaven.

i happen to know marian keyes after a guy at work recommended her. yes, you read it right. a guy recommended her, she's that good. so, our first affair i mean, the first book that i read was last chance saloon. a story with a lot of characters but well, she written it so well and i never turned back after that.

this one, further under the duvet is not a novel but a compilation of her musings that were either published and unpublished. it is basically her collection of daily stories; the never-ending story of lost baggage, her sticky ear (yes, just the one), how she started writing and her love for cosmetics. its all very funny and some of it are touching too, the ones where she visited orphanages and her visit to Ethiopia.

this is in fact a very good read when travelling to work. i do not have to remember where i stop (like i usually have to do with novels) and i still do not need to miss anything. it's a great invention no?

alas, monday. panas sungguh di rumah maka dengan ini welcome air-conditioner!!!!!

patah tebu. tau tak patah tebu tu macam mana?

oke saya pun tak tau sebenarnya tapi saje je nak bubuh jugak kat sini. memang saja nak kene lempang.

patah tebu tulang belakang duduk dalam bas dekat dua jam. like hello....aku ni travel dari seremban ke kl ke atau central market ke sipi--sipi bangsar? eh sedara-sedara plis i tak hangout dekat central market. saya jalan kaki dr klcc ke central market, tolong jangan salah anggap.

petang tadi hujan lagi. dan seperti biasa, hujan-hujan mmg waktu terbaik utk kenderaan rosak kot. daripada elok-elok tak jam, boleh jadi slow crawl yang sudah tahap lebih perlahan dri menggelongsor. memang mengantuk amat rasa macam nak tidur seperti imran di dalam gambar ini. tetapi cuma boleh pandang keluar tingkap seperti apa yang datuk saya lakukan di dalam gambar ini. wah sungguh hebat boleh membuat hubungkait antara gambar dengan kehidupan. cikgu-cikgu tolong bangga dengan saya sekarang sbb skill membuat karangan daripada gambar.

itupun nasib baik dapat duduk dalam bas. kalau berdiri, mahu la jugak jatuh-jatuh jadinye. lepas tu buku nak dibaca pun sudah habis (buku bertajuk thud! dari terry pratchett sudah habis baca. punyelah lama kan perjalanan tu, samapi habis 20++ mukasurat). nasib baik dalam bas ada TV. kepada sesiapa yang tak tau, rapid kl ada tv dalam bas ye. tapi bukanlah tv mcm kat umah tu. die tayang ikut suke la. tadi die tayang transformer tapi tidak dengar. jadi cuma memandang kosong di skrin.

dah tau lama kenapa naik bas? ada kete ni byk belanja, lagi-lagi kerja dekat dengan klcc. sungguh akan jadi sgt tidak convenient. itulah sebabnya.

ya, ini tulisan cacamerba. sebenarnya saja nak tampal gambar imran. hari ni balik umah dia sudah tidur. sungguh rinduuuuuuu

Lord of the Flies dari William Golding. lama gila nak cari buku ni. maklumlah, sudah dikatakan antara sebuah hasil seni yang terhebat dalam kurun ke-20.

secara ringkasnya, ia berkisar tentang perebutan kuasa (bunyi mcm kenal kan?hiks) di antara dua pemimpin. seorang yang mempunyai visi, seorang lagi pemimpin yang fun.

secara tak ringkasnya adalah cerita budak-budak yang cuba untuk survive dekat satu pulau lepas kapal terbang mereka terhempas. macam mana orang-orang yang tak dikenali berkumpul bersama dan cuba untuk bersatu. memang, pemimpin yang kelihatan tidak berapa fun, akan kekurangan penyokong.

akhirnya, selepas beberapa tahun, berjaya juga menjumpai buku ini. yeslah. time kaseh rakan sepejabat.

Eat, Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert

  Honestly, what catches my eye for the first time was the title of the book. actually, the first word because i love to eat. hoho.

 the book is funny, biting, a page-turner and well.. weird as it seems, it works like a motivational book. why?

  she flew all the way to italy to speak the beautiful language after her divorce. the divorce, obviously was not pretty. nobody shook hands on it. it was not glorious but she had to get out of it; the life with a husband, a nice house, a job ...well almost everything.
 
  after italy, she flew to india, to discover spirituality. personally, i think this part was really beautiful. imagine leaving all your worldly possessions to live in an ashram (bukan asrama pls) and quiet the chaotic mind. this part to me is really beautiful since the person in this story has a really busy, noisy mind. seriously, i tried meditating and it was not easy. trying to block all the thoughts was not easy.

  kawan saya cakap, cuba bayangkan yang anda seperti bayi yang baru lahir ketika bermeditasi. ha ye la sangat. mesti masa tu isbuk fikir 'saya lbayi lelaki atau perempuan?', 'apa personaliti saya?', 'adakah saya comel?', adakah saya mempunyai adik-beradik yang lain?'.

  ye, minda yang mmg tidak boleh diam.

  and after india (she managed to meditate afterall and being happy with it. i envy her), she flew to bali in indonesia.

  like i said before, it is like a motivational book, not the typical 'you have to take out a pencil to draw your own eyes on the paper' or 'remember to write the good things that happened everyday' sort of thing. it was like, she was talking to me from the book.

  there were many emotions throughout the book. her divorce and breakup was handled in a way that was almost funny but what strikes me the most was how she was affected when a healer in bali didn't seem to buy a house when clearly the healer had money and gilbert was more than willing to help.

  this is really a page turner and to sum it up, it is about a journey of a person who looks for herself, meaning of life, individuality and the best pizza in naples, among others. i truly enjoyed it.

it started with a christmas meal landing inside a house. then, filthy rich guy meets really poor beggar. and can actually predict what would happen next. hence, i returned the book asap. 

it seems that i can only stomach old ahern's novel. 

memang bukan untuk seseorang yang tidak sukakan jalan cerita yang slow seperti keretapi KTM ke penang yang bersiar-siar, berhenti minum kopi di setiap negeri selama setengah jam. mungkin anda tidak tahu tetapi keretapi ke butterworth mengambil masa 8 jam.

the anonymous lawyer may live a lie but whatever he posted in his blog, he tells the truth. well, some of it.

i can't remember when or where did i buy this book but that little to do with its quality. the novel is made of up blog entries from the anonymous lawyer. at first, he was just testing to see how the blog works and before he knew it, he is pouring everything into it.

he was a hiring partner in the firm, running for the place as a chairman. but there's a rival and he started to talk about it. the novel was really funny with really evil lines. unfortunately, i can't share here with you. ok, i lied, i can't find where i put Anonymous Lawyer: A Novel by Jeremy Blachman. BUT, you can actually take a sneak peak at what you can expeect from this novel at the Anonymous Lawyer blog.

Anonymous Lawyer: A Novel is highly recommended for those who love dark humour and something witty.

she was rubbing her eyes at 1 am. but still, she had stacks of papers to complete. but heck, it was a good day.she was happy and satisfied.

she was very busy these days. she even forgot to write an entry about The Lost Diaries of Adrian Mole. it was a present from a very very very good friend. a birthday present. she thought it'd be weeks before she managed to finish reading the book from Sue Townsend. How wrong, how very very wrong. she dropped everything and peeled the book from page to page. Adrian Mole never change. He still speaks in the same voice, echoing the loneliness with a touch of snooty-ness that she can barely understand. but heck, it was one hell of a book. she loved humour and nothing can beat dark humour. she lived on it and she realised that most of her collection are about dark humour.

adrian mole is now in his 30's and are left with two young kids. a single father, jobless and still trying to get his writings published. still, to no avail. if that's difficult, the marriage of his parents continues to confuse him. it was this and that, this partner and that.

the Lost Diaries of Adrian Mole was set back before the time he was arrested for organising a protest to protect mohammed; his friend. and the diary is for the duration between 1999-2001. its a lot of emotion to see him standing up for glenn; his son, as well as fighting a losing battle.

'thanks, girl,' she's still smiling when i type these words. nothing beats a very good book, in my case at least. i love it.

she needs a break today. and she's going out for a while. not for long, just a couple of hours. her legs are tied with an avalanche of work.

or maybe she'd just stay at home. maybe take a peek in MPH. or not. she's not even sure.

Book Review- The Necklace

  This is the book that I won from BookXcess so yeay! Thanks a lot BookXcess.

  There’s so much to learn in this book or rather, this true story. 13 women bought a diamond necklace. Yes, you read that right, 13 of them formed a group and bought the necklace. The idea was founded by Jonell McLain and although a lot of people tried to talk her out of it, she proceeded with the idea.

  The 13 women came from different backgrounds; some had to deal with blow after blow of losing their loved ones; either physically or mentally, who signed the check to buy the necklace that they finally named as Jewelia (after Julia Child)  without even looking at it and there are also some who were attracted to get into the group after seeing how the pioneers managed to raise money through a diamond necklace. And surprisingly enough, they did not sell Jewelia to raise the money. Really creative, isn’t it?

  I personally think this story is really beautiful. Beautiful because I can relate to it. Most of the women find themselves unable to buy the necklace, which price was originally USD 32,000. Furthermore, it happened during this time. Of course I do like Anne Frank but having to relate to it is a bit difficult given that Holocaust was really a long time ago, right?

  I learnt about a lot of things after leafing through the 120 pages. The power of dream, never stop dreaming. And never stop to work for the dream because dreaming without working for it is useless. The founder of the group dreamt about having the necklace and when she don’t think she can do it alone, she tried to rope in more people to agree to buy the necklace and she did manage to buy the necklace.

  Some of the women in the book see little need to wear the necklace but that did not stop them from buying it. The rule is to circulate the diamonds among members for 28 days. Some of them, instead of wearing it themselves, shared the experience to wear the necklace to someone else. Although it was only for just one day or even a few minutes, it made a whole lot of difference. It was repeated in the book how a child, an old woman, a worker in the post office, cherish the moment they had with the necklace. One story struck at me when one of the women brought the necklace around to the hospital and gave an ald dying lady to wear it. The old lady wore it in the hospital bead and combined a smile into it. Although the necklace did not cure her, she was happy throughout the day. A picture was taken and it happened to be the last picture her children ever had of their mom. They liked it because it was their mom’s last picture and she looked happy in it.

  It seems that if we want to be happy, we don’t necessarily have to own the thing and use it for ourselves. It seems that making other people happy matters the most.

  I think this is a very good book. Although I can’t tell the rest of the lessons in in, if you happen to see this book by Cheryl Jarvis with the title The Necklace, it’s worth the peek.

Starter for 10 - book review

Seriously I could not remember why i bought this book. but i personally think its worth the monet.

brian jackson was 19 and he got to college. he imagined about having a don quixonte moustache, starts smoking, among others. but things are a lot harder than what he thinks it would be like.

jackson struggles with adjusting, trying not to be a prick to his friends, to be more in touch with his mother, to set things straight with a few female friends, trying to study, party hard, make it to the University Challenge and a few others.

as usual, the book is full of dark humour and getting drunk that i can nearly feel the hangover that was never there. it was entertaining to see jackson stammer when he apologised to rebecca and then confessed he wasn't sure what he was apologising for. it was like reading into a guy's mind, literally.

things went out of hand during a university challenge qualifying round. somehow brian tried too hard and ruined everything. he did patch up things with his mum and soon-to-be-dad uncle des. but things got awry and in the end brian chose to start things over; his studies, his love relationship, his relationship with his mum.

if you like dark humour, then this is something that maybe something you should look for. but of course, i like stephen clark's merde happens more.

i think sir arthur conan doyle is classy. if he is still alive, i would like to stalker him. like really stalk him and paste his pictures to cover my walls.

why? because his classy. i'm repeating myself. ouh gosh! that is not good.

i managed to get myself The Lost World from this writer. i read his sherlock holmes series. in fact, i have the whole compilation that i know i haven't finish reading but it is certainly delightful to see him manage to keep the humour.

in this book, we travel with Professor Challenger, Lord John Roxton, Professor Summerlee and Edward Malone to venture into the land where dinasours still live. No, it was not time travelling but Challenger gathered these people to go into some part of South America and witness the existence of the prehistoric animals.

Challenger went to the said place in the previous two years before reaching London and being ridiculed by the science community due to his far-fetched ideas. hence, he gathered the company with Summerlee, whos is the chief in ridiculing Challenger's ideas at the time. Not known as someone who has a calm nerves, it was not difficult for Challenger to get into the bad books of everyone else.

the story was told in such a way that i can really picture myself being in the plateau full of boiling asphalt, facing the great iguanadons and also witnessing the cruel 'jumping-off-the-cliff' game of the ape-man. everything that happened; be it the shooting of one of their slaves, the nightwalk edward malone took, the war between the indians and ape-man, each and everyone of it kind of stuck in my mind. like it was literally a journey.

reading the book was definitely a joy. added with the sarcasm and dry humour of all the characters, i kind of agree that this book must be read before dwelling into jurassic park.
